Safeguarding Policy
Tutorwise safeguarding policy for sessions with children and vulnerable adults — responsibilities, reporting, and compliance.
Safeguarding Policy
Our Commitment
Tutorwise is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. All tutors, clients, and platform users must follow our safeguarding guidelines.
Key Principles
- The welfare of the child or vulnerable adult is paramount
- All concerns must be reported — no matter how small
- Tutors must maintain professional boundaries at all times
- Online sessions are subject to the same safeguarding standards as in-person sessions
Tutor Responsibilities
Before Sessions
- Maintain a valid Enhanced DBS check (required for under-18 tutoring)
- Complete safeguarding training (recommended annually)
- Ensure your tutoring environment is appropriate and private
During Sessions
- Never be alone with a child in a private physical space — online sessions should be in view of a parent/guardian where possible
- Do not share personal contact details (phone, social media) with students under 18
- Record sessions in VirtualSpace (with consent) for safeguarding purposes
- Report any concerns immediately
Reporting Concerns
If you observe or suspect:
- Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
- Neglect
- Radicalisation
- Self-harm or suicidal thoughts
- Inappropriate behaviour from another user
Report immediately via the Lexi chat widget (select "Safety Concern") or email safeguarding@tutorwise.io. All reports are escalated to our safeguarding team within 1 hour.
Client Responsibilities
- Provide accurate information about your child's needs
- Ensure a parent or guardian is aware of all tutoring sessions
- Report any concerns about tutor behaviour immediately
- Do not leave children under 13 unsupervised during online sessions
Platform Safeguards
- All tutors undergo identity verification and DBS checking
- VirtualSpace sessions can be recorded for safeguarding review
- AI monitoring flags concerning language patterns
- All reports are investigated within 24 hours
- Tutorwise cooperates fully with law enforcement when required
Ofsted Compliance
Tutorwise follows Ofsted guidelines for online education providers. Our safeguarding policy is reviewed annually and updated in line with:
