Getting Started Guide

Welcome to Tutorwise! This guide will help you find the perfect tutor for your student(s) and manage their learning journey.

Note

New Client? As a client (parent or guardian), you can book tutors, manage multiple students, and track their progress all in one place.

What is a Client on Tutorwise?

Clients are parents, guardians, or individuals who book tutoring sessions for students. As a client, you can:

  • Manage multiple students under one account
  • Find and book qualified tutors
  • Track session history and progress
  • Handle payments and invoices
  • Communicate with tutors
  • Earn referral commissions

Step 1: Complete Your Profile

Account Information

Set up your client account:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Profile photo (optional)
  • Preferred communication method
  • Billing address for invoices

Add Your Students

Add one or more students to your account:

  1. Go to My Students
  2. Click Add Student
  3. Enter student details:
    • Name and age
    • Current grade level
    • Subjects of interest
    • Learning goals
    • Any special requirements
Tip

Multi-Student Management: You can add unlimited students to your account and book different tutors for each one.

Step 2: Find the Right Tutor

Use our Marketplace to search for qualified tutors.

Search and Filter

Filter tutors by:

  • Subject: Maths, English, Science, Languages, etc.
  • Level: Primary, GCSE, A-Level, University
  • Session Type: Online, In-person, or Hybrid
  • Price Range: £15-£100+ per hour
  • Availability: Match your student's schedule
  • Location: For in-person sessions
  • Qualifications: Degrees, certifications, DBS checks

Evaluate Tutor Profiles

Look for:

  • Qualifications: Verified degrees and certifications
  • Experience: Years teaching and student success stories
  • Reviews: Ratings from other parents and students
  • Teaching Style: Approach and methodology
  • Availability: Flexible scheduling options
  • Pricing: Clear hourly rates and package deals

Step 3: Book Your First Session

Booking Process

  1. Select Student

    • Choose which student the session is for
    • Tutors will see student's grade and subject needs
  2. Choose Time Slot

    • Browse tutor's available times
    • Select duration (30 min, 1 hour, 2 hours)
    • Pick recurring sessions if needed
  3. Add Session Details

    • Specify topic or curriculum area
    • Share homework or assessment materials
    • Mention specific goals or challenges
    • Add any special instructions
  4. Review and Confirm

    • Double-check all details
    • Agree to cancellation policy
    • Complete booking
Note

Flexible Cancellation: Cancel up to 24 hours before the session for a full refund. Late cancellations may incur charges.

Step 4: Set Up Payments

Add Payment Method

Before booking, add a payment method:

  1. Go to AccountPayments
  2. Click Add Payment Method
  3. Enter card details securely
  4. Set as default (optional)
  5. Save for future bookings

Payment Process

How Payments Work:

  • Payment authorized when booking
  • Held securely until session completes
  • Released to tutor 24 hours after session
  • Refunded automatically if tutor cancels

Session Pricing:

  • Set by individual tutors
  • Charged per hour or session
  • Discounts for package bookings
  • No platform booking fees
Important

Payment Security: All payments processed through Stripe. Your card details are never stored on Tutorwise servers.

Step 5: Manage Sessions

Before the Session

Preparation Checklist:

  • Confirm session time with student
  • Ensure device and internet work (for online)
  • Prepare materials or homework
  • Set up study space
  • Remind student of session goals

During the Session

Your Role:

  • Let tutor and student work together
  • Be available if needed
  • Avoid interrupting unless necessary
  • Take notes on progress (optional)

For Young Students:

  • Supervise from nearby location
  • Assist with technical issues
  • Ensure student stays engaged

After the Session

Post-Session Actions:

  1. Review session summary from tutor
  2. Check student understanding
  3. Rate and review the tutor
  4. Book next session if satisfied
  5. Address any concerns with tutor

Managing Multiple Students

  3. You earn 5% commission on their bookings
  4. Commissions paid for first 6 months

Your Earnings:

  • £50 booking → You earn £2.50
  • No limit on referrals
  • Weekly payouts via Stripe

Common Questions

Can I switch tutors if not satisfied? Yes, you can book different tutors anytime. We recommend trying 2-3 sessions before deciding.

What if my student needs help with multiple subjects? Book different tutors for each subject, all managed under your account.

Are there contracts or commitments? No contracts required. Book sessions as needed with complete flexibility.

What if the tutor doesn't show up? Contact support immediately. You'll receive a full refund and credit toward your next session.

Can I get a refund after a session? Refunds are case-by-case. If you're unsatisfied, contact the tutor first, then support if unresolved.

Do tutors have DBS checks? Many tutors have DBS clearance. Look for the DBS verified badge on profiles and ask tutors directly.
